This listing allows for a search of individual state requirements by teaching category. Financial AidOffice of Special Education Programs Persons interested in becoming a special education professional can search a national database of personnel preparation programs which offer financial assistance (tuition and/or stipends) to pay for coursework taken toward a special education or related services degree. The list of college and universities which offer these grant programs is available by state or area of interest. Information about these programs is available online at www.special-ed-careers.org and in hard copy by state. Listing for each higher education program includes contact information, number of full and part-time faculty, CEC/NCATE accreditation, state approval, disability-related programs, academic levels of preparation (bachelors, masters, doctoral) and age level of students teachers will be trained to serve (infant, early childhood, elementary, secondary). Office of Special Education Programs The OSEP discretionary grants program provides funding to colleges and universities to prepare special education and related services personnel. This listing identifies those colleges and universities that focus on preparing minority personnel to become special educators. and Related Services Upon specific request, the Clearinghouse can provide a targeted summary of supply and demand data reported in the Annual Report to Congress on the Implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Data tables on child count and personnel serving children and youth with disabilities are included. Information is also available on the teacher preparation pipeline using the Clearinghouse database of special education personnel preparation programs and the National Center for Education Statistics' Completions surveys from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). Education: A Critical Review of the Literature This monograph is a review of research about alternative routes to certification in special education. The review considers questions such as: What do we know about the efficacy of alternative certification programs in special education? What are the outcome measures used to gauge the success of such programs? Do these programs address the need for highly qualified teachers, as well as just the immediate need for quantity? Are there any critical differences between those approaches that have been successful and those that have not worked? Are there any risks associated with less than optimal programs?
